On July 1, 2020, my country’s first national standard for eyewash devices GB/T 38144.1-2019 “Eye and Face Protection Emergency Spray and Eye Wash Equipment Part 1: Technical Requirements” and GB/T 38144.2-2019 “Eye and Face Protection Emergency Spray and Eyewash Equipment Part 2: Guidelines for Use” was officially promulgated. Emergency shower and eyewash equipment should be installed in an area within 10 seconds of the operator (generally, when people walk at a normal pace, they can walk an average of 15m in 10 seconds). The eyewash should be installed on the same plane in the potentially hazardous area, taking into account the avoidance of obstacles in the route to the device.
Rinse fluid temperature
The suitable temperature range for the flushing fluid at the water inlet of emergency shower and eyewash equipment is 16ºC to 38ºC. Flushing fluids with a temperature below 16ºC can immediately slow down the chemical reaction, but prolonged exposure to cold fluids can affect the body’s required body temperature and cause premature interruption of emergency treatment .

Maintenance and personnel training
It is recommended that emergency shower and eyewash equipment be inspected and maintained at least weekly and recorded.
