1.The series of national standards for “Emergency Spraying and Eye Washing Equipment” were proposed by the Ministry of Emergency Management, and the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Personal Protective Equipment (SAC/TC 112) was under the jurisdiction. The China National Institute of Standardization organized relevant domestic units and experts to complete the development of the standards.

This series of national standards is divided into two parts: technical requirements and use guidelines, which focus on production and use respectively, and have clear applicable objects, which are convenient for standard users to choose and use. The standard numbers, names and main contents of the two parts are as follows.

1.1 GB/T 38144.1-2019 “Eye and Face Protection Emergency Spray and Eye Wash Equipment Part 1: Technical Requirements”

GB/T 38144.1-2019 specifies the product classification, technical requirements, test methods, labeling and instructions for use of emergency shower and eyewash equipment, etc., which is suitable for workers whose eyes and bodies are exposed to hazardous chemicals and other dangerous goods in the workplace Afterwards, emergency shower and eyewash equipment for emergency flushing treatment.

GB/T 38144.1-2019 has 10 chapters on the content structure, including: scope, normative references, terms and definitions, product classification, emergency showers, eye washes, eye/face washes, composite devices, supplementary devices, Identification and description, the main content is as follows.

First, it specifies product classification and definitions of related terms, and divides emergency shower and eyewash equipment into 4 categories: emergency shower; eyewash; eyewash/facewash; composite device.

Second, it specifies the structure, technical requirements and test methods of emergency showers, eyewashes, eyewashes/facewashes, composite devices, and technical requirements for supplementary devices.

Thirdly, it specifies the labeling and description of products, including permanent labeling requirements and product description requirements.

1.2 GB/T 38144.2-2019 “Eye and Face Protection Emergency Spray and Eye Wash Equipment Part 2: Guidelines for Use”

GB/T 38144.2-2019 provides guidelines for the selection, installation, commissioning, usage, maintenance, personnel training and safety precautions of emergency shower and eyewash equipment, which is suitable for guiding the correct use of emergency shower and eyewash equipment.

GB/T 38144.2-2019 has 10 chapters in terms of content structure, including: scope, normative reference documents, terms and definitions, model selection, installation, commissioning, usage, maintenance, personnel training, and safety precautions. The main contents are as follows.

First, the basic principles of equipment selection are given, and guidance on how to select equipment under special conditions of high temperature or freezing is given.

Second, it gives guidelines for equipment installation area layout, installation location, water supply pipeline, flushing fluid temperature, warning device, alarm device, etc., as well as specific steps for debugging.

Thirdly, it provides guidelines for the use, maintenance, personnel training, safety precautions, etc. of emergency shower and eyewash equipment.
